About Dr Richard Lees
Working predominantly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, Dr Richard Lees is a senior anaesthetist at the Northern Beaches Hospital (NBH) where he provides high quality, patient-centred care across a range of surgical specialities.
Originally from the UK, Dr Lees studied medicine at Cambridge University and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London before moving to Sydney in 1999.
Specialist Experience and Positions
Dr Lees completed his anaesthetic training at the Royal North Shore Hospital and subsequently obtained his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
He further completed two extra years of anaesthetic specialty training – specialising in Paediatric Anaesthesia (Children’s Hospital at Westmead) as well as in Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine (Sydney Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) and the Kent, Surrey, Sussex Air Ambulance Trust, (UK).
Beyond the work
Dr Lees has an interest in education and simulation training, and is the supervisor of training for the anaesthetic trainees at NBH. His other clinical interests include anaesthesia in remote areas and low/middle income countries which has seen him work extensively overseas, mostly in a volunteer capacity.
This has included medical aid missions to West Africa with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Mercy Ships, as well as to Yemen with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF – Doctors Without Borders).
He currently lives in Fairlight and when not working spends most of his time enjoying the Northern Beaches lifestyle and running around after his two young daughters!
