Skin Cancer Checks Sydney
Dr Johnny Kwei has over 15 years of surgical experience that allows him to accurately assess skin cancer and treat it with the most appropriate modality.
A skin check is a simple procedure that can help to detect skin cancer at an early stage when it is most treatable. During a skin check, Dr Johnny Kwei will examine your skin for any abnormalities, including moles, blemishes and lesions.
If any abnormalities are found, Dr Kwei will recommend the appropriate treatment.
Types of Skin Cancer
Understanding the two primary types of skin cancers is the first step in identifying any skin moles or abnormalities. Skin cancer can be divided into two categories: melanoma skin cancers and non-melanoma skin cancers.
Melanoma Skin Cancers
Melanoma skin cancers are the most serious type of skin cancer, accounting for around 75% of all skin cancer deaths. They are caused by the abnormal growth of melanocytes, which are the cells that produce melanin.
The most common symptom of melanoma is a change in the appearance of a mole, such as sudden growth, elevation in the skin, darkening or pigmentation, itching or bleeding of the skin and various other symptoms.
Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers
Non-melanoma skin cancers are much more common than melanoma skin cancers, accounting for around 95% of all skin cancer cases. There are two main types of non-melanoma skin cancers: basal cell carcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas.
Basal cell carcinomas are the most common type of non-melanoma skin cancer. They form in the lower part of the epidermis, which is the outer layer of your skin.
Squamous cell carcinomas are the second most common type of non-melanoma skin cancer. They form in the upper part of the epidermis, which is the outer layer of your skin.
